Welcome!
For over twenty years my wife and I, and various business partners along the way, published a weekly newspaper in Southern California. Over the years we had several weekly papers, shoppers, monthly magazines in various communities. After the 2008 downturn we were forced to close most and my wife and I took control of the Santa Clarita Gazette, and a few local magazines. I began to write a column, Doug's Rant in 2012. I had many supporters and many who did not agree and always enjoyed the conversation that ensued.
This blog came after COVID forced us to retire early. The financial writing on the wall in Southern California in the spring and summer of 2020 did not look promising. We chose to retire and move to a much more affordable part of the country - the mid west and specifically Indiana. With this blog I hope to continue the conversation.
